What To Expect
To start this beautiful journey we’ll take a bus from the hotels to the dock of Cañitas, where we’ll board a fast boat towards Samaná bay. Our first stop of the day will be on Cayo Levantado, also known as Bacardi Island because of a Bacardi commercial filmed here in the 1970s. With it’s white sandy beach and turquoise water, it has often been featured in ads and movies. Here you enjoy a tasty breakfast to get energized for the day. You’ll also have some time to dip into the crystal-clear water or to just relax on the beach. Afterwards we hop back aboard our fast boat to explore the Los Haitises National Park. Los Haitises attracts yearly numerous visitors who come here to see its magnificent series of 30-meter (98-foot) high rock formations rising out of the water. Along the coast we find extensive mangroves as well as a series of caves. We visit the Cueva de La Linea, where you can admire pre-Columbian Taino paintings on the walls. Followed by a small hike through the surrounding rainforest to get a taste of the local eco-system. The day continues with a boat ride on the Caño Hondo river, through a dense mangrove network, home for many native birds and marine life. We’ll disembark at Paraiso Caño Hondo, our last stop of the day. Voted by Forbes as one of the Top 10 World’s best destinations for a green vacation, the Paraiso is a project that combines eco-lodges with natural fresh water pools. Savour a delicious dominican lunch and enjoy the rest of the day in the crystalline waters of the Jivales River before heading back to your accomodation.

We then head towards the southeast of the island, where the majority of the sugar cane fields are located. Here we will visit a “batey”, also known as “sugar workers’ town”. Surrounded by beautiful fields of sugar cane, a batey is a small village where sugar cane workers and their family live.

Next stop will be the buzzing city of Higuey. Take a tour of the largest and most important cathedral in the Dominican Republic, the “Basilica La Altagracia”. Today, La Altagracia is one of the islands most visited monument. Afterwards it is time to browse the lively markets of Higuey. Take in everyday life while discovering the wide variety of fruits and vegetables the local market has to offer.

Our journey leads us further towards the Anamuya Mountains. With its tropical vegetation, fresh springs and streams, the green mountain forests offer the ideal climate to grow some of the Dominican Republic’s finest products: coffee, cacao, and tobacco. We visit various organic plantations where we will get to feel and taste all these local delicacies. Our expert guides will teach you the history and growing process of various products.

The day continues to a typical ranch in Anamuya for a tasty and traditional Dominican lunch with rice, beans, more, a variety of meats and different salads. Enjoy a 20-minute horse ride through the tropical countryside before heading to the last stop of the day, the unspoiled beaches of Lavacama. “Playa Lavacama” is the perfect place to chill and enjoy the rest of the afternoon like a local. Stroll along the golden sandy beach or take a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean before making our way back towards your accommodation.
