We then head towards the southeast of the island, where the majority of the sugar cane fields are located. Here we will visit a “batey”, also known as “sugar workers’ town”. Surrounded by beautiful fields of sugar cane, a batey is a small village where sugar cane workers and their family live.

Next stop will be the buzzing city of Higuey. Take a tour of the largest and most important cathedral in the Dominican Republic, the “Basilica La Altagracia”. Today, La Altagracia is one of the islands most visited monument. Afterwards it is time to browse the lively markets of Higuey. Take in everyday life while discovering the wide variety of fruits and vegetables the local market has to offer.

Our journey leads us further towards the Anamuya Mountains. With its tropical vegetation, fresh springs and streams, the green mountain forests offer the ideal climate to grow some of the Dominican Republic’s finest products: coffee, cacao, and tobacco. The day continues to a typical ranch in Anamuya for a tasty and traditional Dominican lunch with rice, beans, more, a variety of meats and different salads. Enjoy a 20-minute horse ride through the tropical countryside before heading to the last stop of the day, the unspoiled beaches of Lavacama. “Playa Lavacama” is the perfect place to chill and enjoy the rest of the afternoon like a local. Stroll along the golden sandy beach or take a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean before making our way back towards your accommodation.
